Electric vehicle battery - EV battery
An electric vehicle battery (EVB) (also called a traction battery) is a battery used to power the electric motor of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) or HY electric vehicle (HEV). These batteries are usually rechargeable (secondary) batteries, and usually lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are designed for high ampere hour (or kilowatt hour) capacity.
Electric vehicle batteries are different from starting, lighting and ignition (SLI) batteries because they are designed to provide electricity for a sustained period of time and are deep cycle batteries. Electric vehicle batteries are characterized by their relatively high power-to-weight ratio, specific energy and energy density. There is a need for smaller and lighter batteries because they reduce the weight of the vehicle and therefore improve its performance. Compared with liquid fuels, the specific energy of most current battery technologies is much lower, which usually affects the maximum full electric range of the vehicle.
EV battery lithium-ion
Lithium ion (Li-ion) battery is a rechargeable battery used in electric cars and many portable electronic products. They have a higher energy density than typical lead-acid or nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries. This means that battery manufacturers can save space and reduce the overall size of the battery pack.
Lithium is also the lightest of all metals. However, lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries do not contain lithium metal, they contain ions. For those who want to know what an ion is, an ion is an atom or molecule whose charge is caused by the loss or gain of one or more electrons.
Lithium-ion batteries are also safer than many alternatives, and battery manufacturers must ensure that safety measures are taken to protect consumers in the unlikely event of battery failure. For example, manufacturers have equipped electric vehicles with charging protection devices to protect the batteries during repeated fast charging in a short period of time.
12 Volt Golf Cart Batteries
Battery life depends on proper maintenance. Fully charged battery maintenance includes proper charging, watering, and storing the battery when needed. The points to consider for each are as follows:
Charging the 12-volt golf cart battery:
Make sure that the charger you are using is set to a fully charged battery. Do not use AGM or GEL settings.
The battery should be charged after each use. The rule of thumb is that 30 minutes or more of use requires proper charging.
Avoid charging at temperatures above 120°F
Watering with 12 volt golf cart battery:
The frequency of watering depends on the application and use. Check the new battery every two weeks to see when more water is needed.
As batteries age, they will need to be watered more frequently.
It is best to use distilled or deionized water for the battery. Do not use rivers, lakes or other untreated water.
12 volt golf cart battery storage:
The battery discharges itself when not in use. They self-discharge at a faster rate at higher temperatures. As a rule of thumb, check the battery voltage in storage (unused) every 4 to 6 weeks. Give them a boost charge when their voltage reaches 2.06VPC (6V = 6.19V, 8V = 8.25V, 12V = 12.37V)
